MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Commander of police in Somalia’s capital Farhan Qarole escaped a roadside blast targeting his convoy on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Monday night, with only a few days to go before the country’s presidential election.
The explosion took place in Elasha-biyaha neighborhood on the western outskirts of the capital, reportedly hitting a vehicle part of the police motorcade. But casualties have not been immediately known.
Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, saying that the roadside bomb completely destroyed a police vehicle. Local police officials have not yet commented on the assault.
The police official survived a car bomb attack in Mogadishu in July last year that left at least 9 people dead and more than 10 others wounded. read more
