MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni said on Saturday his country will not support the secession of Somaliland from the rest of Somalia following a meeting with a diplomat from the break-away region.
“We do not support the secession of Somaliland from Somalia because, strategically, it is wrong,” Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni tweeted.
“The people face similar challenges regardless of race and religion; hence, they should embrace politics of interest, which is more important than politics of identity,” he added.
The Ugandan leader stressed that he is ready to take role of peace facilitator between authorities in Mogadishu and Hargeisa.
