MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Security Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur on Saturday ordered the National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA) to remove its undercover agents from Adan Adde International Airport in Mogadishu after growing reports of abuses against staff and travelers.
The move came following security negligence and increase in complaints put forward by other government institutions operating at the airport over physical abuses and intimidation against their staff, the Minister added.
Somali police was instructed to take over security responsibilities of the airport effective of January 2 while the acting director of NISA was asked to remove plain-clothed agents from the airport immediately.
Former deputy director of NISA, said it was a rushed decision to order withdrawal of spies from the airport and claimed that the government would instead dismiss the director of intelligence agents at Adan Adde to curb abuses committed against travelers and immigration officers.
