HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – A meeting between Somaliland president and the leaders of two opposition parties on the conduct of a disputed presidential vote slated for November 13 yielded no progress, Waddani party leader Hirsi Ali Hajji Hassan told a press conference on Tuesday night.
The meeting held at the request of the break-away region’s President Muse Bihi Abdi was overshadowed by the impasse over the upcoming vote, in the course of which the opposition pressed for an agreement on the timetable of the election to avert crisis and remove “ambiguities”, he added.
Bihi was also urged to stop interference in the operations of the Independent Electoral Commission, but the President showed no interest in the requests, opposition leaders said.
Earlier, the presidential candidate of Waddani party Abdirahman Abdillahi Irro said they would cease recognizing Muse Bihi as the President of the self-proclaimed quayside state if he failed to hold the upcoming vote on its due date. read more
