Parliament speaker urges Somalia’s govt to remove Mogadishu’s green-zone

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Speaker of Somali parliament Adan Mohamed Nur urged the government of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to move out of the heavily-fortified green-zone in Mogadishu and relocate ministerial headquarters to other parts of the city.

Nur said government officials should relocate their residences to Daynile and neighborhoods along the Industrial Avenue in the West of the city, which is a no-go area for Somali officials and members of parliament who often use the busy Makka Al Mukarama road near the city’s airport and the presidential compound.

It is not the first time Somali officials have made a similar call, but successive governments have failed over the past decade to secure the capital.
