MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A committee appointed by Puntland authorities has implicated senior security officials in an attack on Somalia’s outgoing Foreign Minister Abdisaeed Muse Ali in the town of Galkayo on April 21, Caasimada Online news website reported on Tuesday.
The team designated to probe the incident submitted findings to regional President Saeed Abdullahi Deni after completing an investigation that lasted for more than two months.
In a report, the probe team said deputy police chief of Mudug region and commander of police for the Siinaay neighborhood of Galkayo were behind the attack on the residence of traditional leader Yasin Abdisamad where Somali Foreign Minister was staying at the time.
One counter-terrorism officer was killed in the raid and three other people including a police commander and well-known elder Yasin Abdisamad wounded.
The committee urged authorities in the semi-autonomous region to recompense the family of the soldier who was killed, others who suffered injuries and the owners of property affected by the raid, adding that Puntland leadership should apologize over the attack.
