Puntland and Jubaland Leaders Reject the Outcome of Dhusamareb Conference

Puntland and Jubaland

GAROWE (Somaliguardian) –Puntland and Jubaland leaders spurned to bolster support for a recent agreement signed between Somalia’s president and leaders of three regional administrations.

Following a telephone conversation, the two regional leaders said they were not part of the second round of Dhusamareb meeting between the federal and regional leaders and as such, the agreement was a one-sided action, taken in favor of a particular group.

In a joint statement issued on Friday night, the presidents of Puntland Saeed Deni and Jubaland Ahmed Madobe strongly rejected the outcome of Dhusamareb conference as the result of unilateral process.

The statement added that the two presidents were ready for any combined approach aimed to reach consensus on election models and other contentious issues.

Critics have started piling on the federal government after Puntland and Jubaland regional states boycotted Dhusamareb meeting, citing untrustworthiness on the part of the federal government leadership.

The move followed the removal of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and a speech by President Farmajo to Parliament in which he affirmed his position on Dhusamareb talks, promising to return any deal reached with federal member states to the Lower House of the Somali Parliament.
