MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland Minister of Information Mohamud Aydid Dirir on Tuesday called for revolt in the town of Lasanod against Somaliland authorities, a day after the break-away region’s President Muse Bihi Abdi visited a contested border area.
Speaking to reporters in the town of Garowe, Dirir said Puntland government is making preparations for an offensive to “liberate” Sool region. He commended alleged protests that broke out in Lasanod following the arrival of Somaliland leader.
On Monday, Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi said his region is hell-bent on taking full control of the borders of the former Somaliland British protectorate. He added that the recognition by both sides of the borders of the Italian and British colonies of Somalia is the only way out of the current standoff.
Somaliland army chief Nuh Ismail Tani, in a speech to regional border guards, said they had defeated Puntland in all offensives that helped them capture the towns of Lasanod and Tukaraq.
