MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland leader Saeed Abdullahi Deni on Monday called for the dissolution of Somalia’s Dam-jadeed ruling group amid escalating rift with the incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Speaking to regional diaspora community in Kenya’s capital Naiorbi, Deni said there is growing need for the country to abolish clan and group-based politics that has served significant hurdles to efforts aimed at restoring peace and rebuilding the country.
“It is essential that Dam-jadeed and dam-fulaan be dissolved,” Deni said in his speech, adding: “We want to return the people to good governance, I will start it [and] you will see.”
The remarks have come amid political wrangling between the Somali federal authorities and Puntland leadership. The appointment by Somali President of Hamza Abdi Barre as his Prime Minister irked the regional leader, who has since launched stinging attacks against Mohamud’s administration.
