MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The president of Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland state, Saeed Abdullahi Deni, has delivered a stern warning to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, urging him to cease using propaganda and take decisive action to unify the country.
Deni emphasized that Somalia cannot be governed through rhetoric alone and warned that the international community may soon lose patience with the government’s inability to bridge internal divides.
In a pointed message, Deni called on Somalia’s leaders to confront the nation’s challenges with realism and a commitment to collaboration.
The time has come for all leaders to open their eyes to the stark reality and work together to resolve tensions, he said.
Only through unity and inclusivity can Somalia move forward and welcome those willing to contribute to its progress, he added.
Deni’s comments came ahead of a scheduled National Consultative Council meeting next month, where regional and federal leaders are set to discuss critical national issues. The Puntland leader, however, has stated he will not attend the meeting unless President Mohamud reverses recent decisions that he claims have undermined prior agreements.
The escalating tensions highlight ongoing political fractures within Somalia, as competing interests between the federal government and regional states threaten to derail efforts to consolidate power and bring stability to the Horn of Africa nation.
