MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Authorities in northeastern Somalia’s Puntland region on Saturday played down fears raised by Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud over a possible power struggle and conflict in the relatively stable region.
Puntland Minister of Justice Mohamed Abdiwahab said claims by the President that authorities are attempting to extend the presidential term without consensus with the opposition are untrue, adding that the region will survive efforts destabilize it.
In a speech on Friday, Somali President said he will not accept moves by the regional authorities that could plunge Puntland into a civil war and prolonged political strife.
