MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The special representative of the African Union Chairperson to Somalia and the head of ATMIS Mohamed El Amin Souef said on Sunday the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab is growingly resilient and retains the ability to conduct large-scale attacks.

“The threat of Al-Shabaab remains unpredictable. The recent complex attack on Somali security forces in El-dher, Galmudug region and the mortar attack on the ATMIS camp in Baidoa, South West state is a reminder to us that Al-Shabaab remains resilient,” Souef told the UN Security Council.

“The group still retains the ability to conduct devastating attacks, including employing asymmetric tactics and organizing complex operations on civilian and security targets.”
