MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Reports suggesting that Somalia’s president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has asked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for armed drones are “fake”, his spokesman Abdirashid Mohamed Hashi said on Saturday.
In an interview with Universal Somali TV, Hashi said the presidents did not discuss the issue of armed drones amid reports that Ankara has already shipped Bayraktar TB2 drones to the capital Mogadishu.
The two presidents focused on their country’s friendly relations, cooperation on key developmental forefronts and fight against Al-Shabaab, which has links with Al-Qaeda, the spokesman added.
Farmajo traveled to Turkey last week and attended Turkey-Africa Summit during which he has given a speech on economic opportunities in war-torn Somalia, which is now facing uncertainty and fresh political crisis over “fraudulent” parliamentary elections.
