MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United States is conducting a review of support for Danab, Colleen Crenweldge chargé d’affaires and interim at US embassy in Mogadishu said on Saturday, weeks after reports emerged of Somalia elite force’s participation in clashes with former ally, in which some of its commanders had been killed.
In an interview with Goobjoog Radio in Mogadishu, the diplomat stressed that the US provides support for Danab Special Forces to ensure commonly shared objective of defeating the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab.
The US will assess whether its assistance has been used as intended and in accordance with agreed policies, she added.
It comes weeks after the United States threatened it would review its support for the Somali elite force following reports that it had taken part in an offensive against Ahlu Sunnah fighters in Guriel, in which a senior commander Abdiladif Feyfle and other officers had been killed.
