MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s outgoing Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on Tuesday urged new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Premier Hamza Abdi Barre to order a criminal probe into allies of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who attempted to undermine recent elections.
Speaking at a ceremony in which new Prime Minister assumed office, Roble elaborated on achievements made by his government including the peaceful completion of protracted elections. He called for an investigation into attempts by former officials to undermine the polls.
“I ask President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to launch probe into obstructions against [recent] elections, and well-being of democracy, and freedom of citizens to prevent a repeat in abuse of power and personal political objectives contrary to the governmental system and the national constitution,” outgoing Somali Premier said.
Roble alleged that there were intellectuals and well-known people who were spreading disinformation and leading a smear campaign against him, weeks after a Somali-Kenyan professor accused him of playing a role in his abduction in Kenyan capital Nairobi last year.
