DOHA (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is set to meet the emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who invited him before taking his first trip to the Middle Eastern country since assuming office last year.
Roble accompanied by a high-level government delegation arrived in Doha on Monday evening, where he has received a warm red carpet reception.
His visit came hours after the president also made his first trip abroad to Ethiopia since April when an extention of his term in office flared violent clashes between two rival army factions in the capital Mogadishu.
Before the premier arrived in Doha, Somali foreign minister Mohamed Abdirizak, who was leading an advance delegation paving the way for Roble’s visit, met with Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdirahman Al Thani.
Politicians including members of the outgoing Somali parliament said Farmajo asked Qatar’s emir to invite Roble to visit his country to ensure that the premier does not take further steps to weaken the president’s influence in government institutions while the embattled leader is in Addis Ababa, according to Caasimada Online news website.
A heightened dispute between the president and prime minister are expected to be among issues discussed in talks between Roble and Qatari government officials during his stay in Doha.
