MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Friday, weeks after the two countries agreed to restore diplomatic relations following years of hiatus.
The embassy was reopened in a ceremony held in the Somali capital Mogadishu, Saudi state news agency agency (SPA) quoted the Kingdom’s foreign ministry as saying on Friday.
It came after a Saudi diplomatic delegation had visited the Horn of Africa nation in June to discuss with Somali authorities the resumption of the embassy’s work that has been operating from neighboring Kenya for years.
Saudi Arabia appointed a new ambassador to Somalia in October, who has later submitted his credentials to the Somali president, in a move that came years after the kingdom and other Gulf countries isolated the Horn of Africa nation for its ties with Qatar.
