MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somali federal and regional leaders congratulated the president of the northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland Saeed Abdullahi Deni on securing reelection in a vote held on Monday.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated Deni on becoming the first Puntland president to win reelection since the federal member state was established in the 1990s.
Former Presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and other members of the country’s political elite sent their congratulations immediately after the results of the vote had been announced.
