MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi said on Wednesday his government will launch an offensive against Al-Shabaab and other militant groups in Somalia to reopen main supply routes.
“We are determined to launch forceful and comprehensive fight to counter Al-Shabaab, ISIS and other terrorist organizations through military and non-military means,” Somali Premier said in a meeting with a delegation from the African Union Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security.
Joint operations are needed to “reopen main supply routes” throughout the country and collective efforts aimed to “counter the transnational threat of terrorism”, he added.
In a tweet, the African Union Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security said it had paid a courtesy call on Somali prime Minister and had “fruitful discussions on the situation in the country” and AU peacekeeping operations.
