Somali prosecutors say they have frozen bank accounts of journalists body

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The office of Somalia’s prosecutor-general said on Monday it had suspended the bank accounts of Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) amid an ongoing investigation into alleged fake license it used, Caasimada Online news website reported.

Prosecutors alleged that SJS used fake licenses to register its bank accounts and as such, a local court issued the freeze order.

It comes nearly a year after authorities jailed the chairman of the journalists body Abdalla Ahmed Moumin, in what press activists called an attempt to silence journalists and curtail their freedoms.
