MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Ethiopian troops have begun engaging in confrontation with Somalia’s security forces after crossing the country’s border from multiple locations, Somali ambassador to the United Nations Abukar Osman Bale told the Security Council on Sunday.
“In the last weeks, non-ATMIS Ethiopian troops illegally crossed our borders from different locations, engaging in confrontation with Somali security forces,” Bale said.
“Somali government cautions the council about the implementation of these destabilizing actions in Somalia and the wider region. Somalia reaffirms its commitment to respect the principles enshrined in the UN charter and good neighborliness, and we expect Ethiopia to do the same.”
More than 10,000 Ethiopian troops entered Somalia in past few weeks in what analysts say is a show of force and defiance of Somali government’s announcement that it plans to expel Ethiopian forces from the country by the end of the year.
