MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Ahlu Sunnah fighters seized a military vehicle on Monday in an attack on the central Somalia town of Dhusamareb that has left at least two Turkish-trained Somali soldiers dead, months after the armed faction had been driven out of key regional city.
A local official described the incident as a “terrorist” attack and said a manhunt operation had swung into action. He also confirmed the death of Turkish-trained soldiers in the raid, without giving further details.
Gunmen said to be members of Ahlu Sunnah group, whose fighters had battled government troops for control of Guriel before being overpowered in October, had carried out the attack and recaptured a military vehicle they had lost in last year’s gunfight, according to Caasimada Online news website.
The group is still in control of areas in the region, including the town of Bohol.
