MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday said officers had been arrested for pulling out from a number of frontal towns after setbacks in an offensive against the Al-Qaeda-aligned Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab.
Speaking to members of the Somali army in Mahas town in the central region of Hiran, Mohamud said soldiers should consolidate the gains made in the fight against the Al-Qaeda affiliate and those who retreat from the frontline will be brought to justice.
The speech came shortly before a suicide car bomb exploded in the town on Tuesday, though casualties have not been immediately known.
