MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government has arrested a Turkish national employed by a company managing operations at Mogadishu airport on charges including indecent behavior, threats against Somali employees, and abuse of power, prosecutors said.

“The office of the National Prosecutor General detained Mr. Ertugrul Karafiyeli, a Turkish national and head of workforce for Favori company, and brought him before the Banadir regional court,” the prosecution said in a statement.

“Following a review of the initial evidence submitted by the Office of the National Prosecutor General, the court authorized the temporary detention of the defendant.”

Somali employees at the company have repeatedly raised concerns about mistreatment by Turkish officials from Favori and have organized multiple strikes; however, Somali authorities have failed to take any action to address these issues.
