MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Omar Ali Roble on Wednesday condemned insulting remarks by senior officials of India’s BJP party against the Prophet Muhammad and commended a wave of diplomatic protests by Muslim countries.

In a press conference held in Mogadishu, Roble called on Muslim nations across the world to denounce the derogatory comments.

Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, two members of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) insulted the Prophet last week, triggering diplomatic storm. A number of Muslim countries summoned Indian ambassadors over the comments, forcing BJP to suspend the two officials in an attempt to quell growing outrage.
