Somalia Elections Have Nothing to Do with Somaliland: Foreign Ministry

Somaliland president

HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – The self-proclaimed state of Somaliland on Wednesday said the elections organized by Somalia’s federal government have nothing to do with the breakaway republic and reminded the international community that it is an independent state.

The government of Somaliland informs the United Nations, African Union, European Union and the international community in general that Somaliland is an independent state which has nothing to do with the election system of fragile administration in Somalia,” Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Therefore, the Republic of Somaliland warns the administration and politicians of Somalia against fake and unrealistic claims aimed at misleading the international community.”

The statement came a day after Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said he had received the list of candidates running for Senate seats allocated for the break-away state and welcomed an agreement reached by Senate leader Abdi Hashi and deputy prime minister Khadar Guled, who both come from Somaliland.
