MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Galmudug Interior Minister Abdi Mohamed Jama’ Wayel on Monday hinted at possible extension of regional President Ahmed Qoorqoor’s term in office and the mandate of his government.
In an interview with VOA Somali, Abdi Wayel said the region may follow in the footsteps of other states that extended the term limits of their presidents following the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in May.
“It is possible to extend the terms of the [regional] government and president, since the states of Hirshabelle, Southwest, Jubaland and Puntland have changed their presidential term limits to 5 years,” Galmudug Interior Minister Abdi Wayel said.
“No one can stand in the way of such a term extension if it has been proposed by the government and parliament,” he added.
