MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Speaker of Somalia’s parliament Sheikh Adan Madobe on Saturday met with the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed Ahmed Othman to discuss key issues, including bilateral ties as the Horn of Africa country’s presidential vote looms.
Mr Othman congratulated Sheikh Adan Madobe on his win in an election for parliament leadership which was held last month in Mogadishu.
Both officials also discussed the upcoming presidential vote slated for May 15 and bilateral relations between Somalia and the UAE, which have been at the best since both countries agreed to reset diplomatic ties earlier this year following years of hiatus.
UAE is believed to have rallied behind some of the opposition candidates running against the incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who is backed by Abu Dhabi’s arch-rival, Qatar.
