Somalia PM Sacks Foreign Minister, Names President’s Ally

Somali PM

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble sacked his foreign minister Mohamed Abdirizak and appointed a key ally of the President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, his office said in a statement on Saturday amid uncertainty over elections funding.

Roble appointed Abdisaeed Muse Ali, president Farmajo’s former security advisor and the director of presidency to replace Mohamed Abdirizak, who has served the post for just a year. His predecessor had been fired during a standoff over an online statement on the Somali government’s position on the war in neighboring Ethiopia last year.

The story of my replacement is a surprise to me, as much as everyone else but follows my offer of resignation a week ago,” Mr Abdirizak tweeted.

I will update everyone in due course but it has been a pleasure to serve the Somali nation and ofcourse wish my replacement all the best.”

There are reports that the sacked the minister had been planning to announce run for presidency and challenge the incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in the upcoming polls.
