MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed a number of his allies to key posts in the first two days of his new term after he had assumed office on Monday in a ceremony attended by the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

Shortly after taking office, he appointed Hussein Sheikh Mohamud as the new presidential chief of staff and thanked the former holder of the post for “his distinguished service”.

Mohamed Amin has been named as the president’s deputy chief of staff. The man “previously served in the Senate where he was also Chairperson of the Defense and Security Committee”.

In a separate decree issued overnight, the director of Hiraal Institute Hussein Moallin was appointed as National Security Advisor to “advance H.E. President Hassan’s profound commitment to achieving a safer Somalia”.

On Tuesday, Mohamud assigned Abdirahman Abdishakur, a critic of Farmajo adminstration over the past five years and one of the contenders in recent presidential election, to lead efforts to mitigate the impact of a worsening drought in the Horn of Africa country. an image circulated online showed Abdishakur standing next to the president in a press conference.
