MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – President of the northeastern Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland Saeed Abdullahi Deni and opposition leaders on Monday opposed a recent agreement signed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and four state leaders.
Deni said the move was unconstitutional and that Somali President is leading the country towards “a wrong direction”. He continued to add that Puntland will operate separately from federal authorities until an inclusive government comes to power.
The regional leader accused Mohamud of already taking over the Prime Minister’s powers.
In a statement, opposition leaders, including former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed called the agreement unconstitutional and urged the signatures of the deal to avoid moves that may plunge the country further into chaos.
