MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The bodyguards of Puntland president Saeed Abdullahi Deni on Tuesday opened fire on a vehicle in the town of Garowe, the capital of northeastern Somalia’s semi-autonomous region, killing one civilian.

The bodyguards were escorting the regional president during the shooting near the city center that resulted in the death of a young woman, whose name has been identified by local media as Maryan Ahmed Mohamed.

Regional authorities have not immediately commented on the shooting, but witnesses said the bodyguards opened fire after a vehicle approached the president’s motorcade.

Family and relatives of the young woman, who had been shot dead by Deni’s bodyguards, strongly reacted over the incident and demanded justice for the victim.
