Somalia ramps up security measures amid high terror alert

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government ramped up security measures in the capital Mogadishu, days after the United States warned of terror threats to multiple locations in the city, Caasimada Online news website reported on Thursday.

Fresh troops and plain-clothed intelligence officers have been deployed to areas, including Liido beach, the surroundings of Adan Adde International Airport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, feared to be a possible target for attacks from insurgents, has introduced concrete blast walls to protect its compound. A large number of presidential guards has also been deployed in the security perimeters of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s residence, days after mortar shells landed near the complex.

A number of international airlines have canceled flights to Adan Adde International Airport in Mogadishu due to security fears.
