MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government on Thursday received a shipment of 25,000 tons of grain donated by Russia, state TV reported.

Russian officials handed over the donation to the Somali government at Mogadishu airport, promising that an additional 25,000 tons of grain will arrive from Russia later this year.

Speaking in Mogadishu, Russian ambassador to Djibouti Mikhail Golovanov said Moscow and Mogadishu signed in July an agreement that will alleviate about $700M of debt accumulated by Somalia since 1961 in an effort to revive Soviet-era diplomatic ties.
