Somalia recognizes SSC-Khatumo’s statehood, declares territory undisputed

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – In a decisive move to solidify national cohesion, Somalia’s federal government has officially recognized SSC-Khatumo as a full-fledged member state, ending years of ambiguity over its constitutional status.

The announcement, delivered with unequivocal clarity, affirms that the region’s territories are incontestably sovereign Somali soil, dispelling any notion of dispute.

The breakthrough follows Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s high-profile visit to Las Anod, where he was greeted by fervent crowds—a visible endorsement of Mogadishu’s push to integrate the region into the federal framework.

SSC-Khatumo will now take its seat at the National Consultative Council, granting it a direct voice in shaping Somalia’s governance and security policies.

Demonstrating a commitment to reconciliation, SSC-Khatumo authorities released 25 Somaliland prisoners of war, captured during months of clashes.

The détente signals a broader shift toward collaboration, with both sides pledging to align security forces under Somalia’s national military architecture while accelerating development initiatives in the long-neglected region.

Analysts interpret the recognition as a strategic masterstroke, simultaneously weakening breakaway narratives and reinforcing Mogadishu’s authority over fractious territories. With SSC-Khatumo’s integration, Somalia edges closer to a unified federal system—though challenges remain in harmonizing local forces with central command structures.
