MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government said on Thursday that it rejected deferral of maritime case with Kenya after Nairobi urged the International Court of Justice to delay the hearing for the third time.
Speaking to press in Mogadishu, Somali Information Minister Osman Abokor Dubbe noted that Somalia would not accept the hearing to be postponed “for a fourth and fifth time”.
The Somali government, whose term expired this week, insists that another deferral would be a major setback for the “international justice”, complicating to amicably end the long standing row with the government of Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Somalia wrote to the International Court of Justice based in the Hague, Netherlands to inform that it was ready to attend the hearing scheduled to take place a week after 15th of March, the Somali Information Minister told journalists.
“We have rejected Kenya’s fourth request to the ICJ to postpone the two countries’ maritime case. Justice delayed is justice denied. We should be set to head to the Hague court on the 15th of March come what may. Long live Somalia,” Osman Abokor Dube has later tweeted.
Kenya appealed for the postponement, citing Coronavirus complications and missing map which is said to have mysteriously vanished, in what many say is intended to suspend the maritime case.
