Somalia Shuts Airport Terminal for UN and AMISOM Flights

Adan Adde airport

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government has closed a terminal at Adan Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, which has been used by the United Nations and the African Union peacekeeping mission (AMISOM), citing breach of immigration protocols.

In a letter issued by the Deputy Manager of the Airport, authorities ordered Favori LLC – a Turkish company that runs management of the airport – to shut the terminal.

Somali authorities alleged that the terminal was used by non-UN and AMISOM travelers, UN contractors exploited it to smuggle uncontrolled commodities and UN flights landed without permission.

The United Nations and the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia have not yet commented on the move.

Authorities say all flights are directed to other arrival and departure terminals and the VIP Lounge to “ensure continuity of the normal services”.
