Somalia sides with Saudi Arabia in row with US over OPEC+ oil cut

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government on Thursday took sides with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a dispute with the United States over the decision of OPEC+ to cut its oil production target despite Washington’s objections.

“The Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its full solidarity with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against the background of its clarifications regarding the purely economic decision of OPEC+ to reduce production to avoid oil market volatility,” Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted in Arabic.

In a heated war of words, the United States earlier accused Saudi authorities of coercing other nations to endorse a steep cut to their output target.

It’s not yet clear the impact Somali government’s decision will have diplomatically and whether the United States, which supports Somali authorities and African Union peacekeepers in the fight against Islamists, will react furiously.
