Somalia, Somaliland governments agree on resumption of talks

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The governments of Somalia and Somaliland on Friday agreed on the resumption of talks between the two sides following a meeting facilitated by the leader of Djibouti Ismail Omar Ghuelleh.

In a communiqué issued after a two-day meeting, the two governments said they agreed on a number of issues, including the resumption of talks, the joint implementation of previous agreements and cooperation on organized crimes.

Among other issues mentioned in the communiqué are giving public apologies about atrocities perpetrated by Somalia’s autocratic regime of Mohamed Siad Barre against the residents in Somaliland, which was formerly known as northern Somalia.

It is not the first time Djibouti hosts talks between the two sides, on the contrary, similar talks held between the two governments in the tiny neighboring Horn of Africa nation yielded no fruitful results.
