Somalia turns down Kenya mediation offer in tensions with Ethiopia over sea access deal

Somalia, Kenya presidents

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government has rejected an offer by Kenya’s President William Ruto to mediate an end to a diplomatic row with Ethiopia over a sea access deal it signed with the breakaway region of Somaliland, the East African reported on Sunday.

Ruto met both Somali and Ethiopian leaders in Nairobi last week, holding discussions on efforts to bring thaw in the diplomatic relations between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa which have been souring since Abiy signed a pact with Somaliland to gain access to a leased land along the Red Sea.

Somalia insisted that it would not hold talks with Ethiopia unless the latter retracted its deal with the breakaway northern Somali region.
