Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least two African Union peacekeepers were wounded and offices damaged in a mortar attack on Halane base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, which is home to several diplomatic missions, including those of the United States, United Kingdom, United Nations and the African Union.

Six shells exploded inside the heavily fortified base on Tuesday afternoon, some of which damaging offices and vehicles inside the camp.

At least two AMISOM officers were wounded in the assault, Dalsan Radio has reported, though the exact number of casualties has not been immediately known.

Pictures circulated on social media show offices and vehicles damaged by the mortar bombs. An AMISOM soldier can be heard saying “we are not save at all” in a video that has gone viral on twitter.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack, just hours before talks between Somali government and regional state leaders were expected to take place inside the heavily guarded base.
