MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has said that his government will consider supporting rebels fighting the Ethiopian government if Addis Ababa goes ahead with the implementation of a controversial sea access deal it signed in January with the break-away region of Somaliland.
“The option of supporting rebels fighting in Ethiopia or opposing the Ethiopian regime is open for us as long as the situation remains this way,” Fiqi said speaking to Universal Somali TV.
“It is the right path to contact, support, and stand by the rebels if Ethiopia continues its hostility and pursues the so-called agreement [with Somaliland],” he added.
