MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab in Somalia has celebrated Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, after the Islamist group declared the war in the land-locked South Asian country over, BBC Somali and Mustaqbal Radio reported, citing Al-Shabaab-affiliated media.
The Islamist group portrayed Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan as a one shared by all Muslims and all Al-Al-Qaeda-affiliated Jihadi groups across the world, nearly a decade after it professed loyal to Al-Qaeda.
Al-Shabaab still continues waging an insurgency campaign against thousands of African Union troops and Somali government troops in an effort aimed at toppling the western-backed government in Mogadishu, despite efforts by the international community to rebuild the country’s army to ensure that Somali troops are able to take responsibility for the security of the Horn of Africa nation before the exit of foreign forces.
