MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama on Wednesday chaired a cabinet meeting on efforts to help evacuate thousands of Somali citizens stranded by the conflict in Sudan.

Somali Foreign Minister Abshir Omar Huruse briefed the cabinet about the plans to return home thousands of Somali citizens affected by the war raging in Sudan, adding that the ministry had asked Ethiopia and Sudan to open their borders to Somalis fleeing the Sudanese conflict.

Jama appointed a 12-member committee that will oversee the evacuation efforts, hours after a number of Somali citizens returning from Sudan landed at Adan Adde Airport in Mogadishu.
