MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre has been accused of election fraud and of bolstering the “looting” of parliamentary seat, a year after he announced his candidacy for the presidency.
Mukhtar Sh. Hussein Jimale told a press conference in Mogadishu on Wednesday that the former Prime Minister blocked him from running for a parliamentary seat against another presidential candidate Mustaf Dhuhulow, in what he described as a brazen “looting”.
The former Premier, who is one of the members of the Council of Presidential Candidates, has not immediately commented on the allegation. Mukhtar claimed that traditional leader Ahmed Hassan Had had helped Khayre in barring him from the contest.
Mustaf Dhuhulow has been chosen to parliament on Thursday in an already predictable vote held in the town of Dhusamareb in Galmudug after most of his challengers were stopped from joining the race.
