Somalia’s former president Farmajo sworn in as permanent MP

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo was sworn in on Sunday as a permanent MP in a parliament session held hours after security forces ended the longest hotel siege in Mogadishu’s history that has left more than 30 people dead.

He survived a motion tabled by MPs proposing that he should not be allowed to join parliament due to alleged human rights violations perpetrated under his watch during his stint in power, including an attack on the residence of opposition leader and the murder of a female spy.
