MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government said on Tuesday it will ask Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti to join an ongoing military offensive in the war-torn Horn of Africa country’s southern and central regions.

In a statement by the Ministry of Defense, the federal government said it will urge the frontline East African countries to deploy their non-ATMIS troops to participate in the ongoing operations aimed at driving Al-Shabaab from key towns in southern Somalia.

Somali Minister of Information Daud Aweys said army chiefs from the four countries met in Mogadishu on Tuesday to pave the way for a meeting between the leaders of Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Main roads in Mogadishu have been closed on Tuesday in an attempt to beef up the city’s deteriorating security.
