GAROWE (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Minister of Planning Jamal Mohamed Hassan, who is running for parliament, said he was concerned about potential election fraud in his constituency, the coastal town of Bosaso citing a handover of security to forces loyal to regional President.
A key ally of Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Mr Jamal told BBC Somali that he and other candidates were concerned about potential fraudulent activity and irregularities as authorities assigned BMPF troops, who report directly to regional president Saeed Deni, with guarding the election venue.
The construction of a building inside Bosaso airport to host the polls is also a testament to the attempts to rig the votes, he added, warning of consequences if authorities go ahead with their plans.
Several Farmajo allies, including ministers had earlier failed to grab seats in parliamentary votes held in the region.
