MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Wednesday he will prioritize security and economic recovery in the first 100 days of his term, just days after he was elected behind blast walls in a heavily guarded airport hanger in Mogadishu.
In an interview with VOA Somali, Mohamud noted arrears clearance, political stability and introduction of important laws are also part of plans for his first 100 days in office.
“In the next 100 days, we want to implement our objectives in the country on security, political stability and economic recovery… in the first 100 days, we will introduce several laws that are crutical for this nation,” Mohamud said.
“When our term comes to an end in 2016, we will have completed an all-agreeable vote which is not similar to the indirect election.”
The new president, who had come under criticism from donations during his previous term from 2012 to 2017 for not doing enough in the fight against graft, has not mentioned plans for dealing with rampant corruption within state institutions but promised to push through reforms in security agencies.
