MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s opposition on Monday opposed a planned extension of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term in office, just months after he had been re-elected.
Himilo Qaran opposition party led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed said the planned extension of the President’s term to five years is unconstitutional, adding that a serving president cannot change the presidential term limits.
In a statement, the party claimed that recent agreement between Southwest leadership and opposition against him was part of efforts aimed to pave the way for an extension of the government’s mandate.
